Procrastination Turned Into A Promise

When we were in Jersey for Thanksgiving my Mom had an old schoolhouse desk for M's room.  It is simple and small which is just what his bedroom needs.  The desk just needed a "good sanding" and a new coat of paint and then M would be all set.  So two days after we returned home I went to Home Depot and I bought a sander with two different grit sandpapers for the job.

And then I will give you one guess what happened to that poor desk in my garage...CRICKETS!

Then on Wednesday I was reading Linda's , of "My Crafty Home Life", blog post about Project Procrastination and I knew that I had a project!  I finally opened the box to my new sander and even read the instructions.  (Really I read the whole booklet!)

It all seemed very straight forward.  Simply attach the sand paper.  It's velcro, how easy is that!?!  I thought I was all set to go.  Three (it came with one) different sandpaper grits and I was ready to go.  I really thought I might even get to paint before dinner was on the table.

I can not tell you how wrong I was!!!  There are more layers of paints on this desk than I could have ever imagined.  I also fear that I am also sanding over glue and maybe even gum.  Who paints over glue? Who paints over GUM?!

The day might not have gone the way I hoped it would but I am not giving up!  After a quick Google search I was informed that I need a much lower sandpaper grit number.  (Thank God for the interweb!)  So back to Home Depot I go....I promise to keep you updated on the desk.
